Greetings. I’m Jeff Anderson.
My top-level professional goal is to use antiracist learning science to help people thrive. I hope also to empower people in my life to leverage their own sense of democratic engagement in our communities and to think deeply about how they might use their learning skills as tools to serve and empower other people, especially those folks who have the least systemic power in our society. I do work towards this goal as a research educator, a research mathematician, an educational consultant, an author, a content creator, a learning skills mentor, and a scholarship coach.
Towards this goal, I have three relevant areas of expertise. My first specialty is in numerical linear algebra (a sub-field of applied mathematics focusing on how to use computers to solve scientific problems). My second forte is in applied math education where I create excellent learning resources to show how to use mathematics to solve problems related to your academic and career interests. I also spent 15+ years studying productivity, the science of learning and expertise, and performance psychology. In my day job, I teach college students how to get better grades, become more effective/efficient/deep learners, get paid to learn, and launch a career that you love.

A little about myself as a research educator:
As an educator, I feel very strongly that I want to work at an open-admissions institution that educates the top 100% of learners. Towards that goal, I believe that community college provide the highest value per dollar and are the premier institutions for teaching and learning in the USA. In other words, if you want access to the highest levels of educational excellence in the USA for yourself or someone you love, I recommend you go to community colleges.
During daylight hours, I teach a number of math and engineering classes at Foothill College in Los Altos, CA. I love this job, respect my students, and work daily to improve the learning environment in my classes. In that space, I work tirelessly to use empirically validated teaching strategies and map every decision I make in my classroom back to research results in cognitive science, the psychology of learning, the science of expertise, and the scholarship of anti-racism and anti-oppression.

A little about myself as a research mathematician:
I am head-over-heals in love with applied linear algebra. I believe this field is the workhorse of modern day (post-1950) mathematical modeling. Specifically, I believe applied linear algebra can be used to
study, develop, and solve problems that matter in our lives
deepen our understanding of the physical world
stimulate our intellectual curiosity
One of my major professional goals is to redesign the introductory linear algebra classroom to be engaging, experiential, and mastery-based. For more about my vision here, see the following links:

I also yearn to provide students with opportunities to cultivate valuable technical skills as part of their introduction to linear algebra. To accomplish these goals, I create curriculum, experiments, learning resources and software focused on applied linear algebra. I share many of the resources on this website. I set high expectations for my creative output as a research mathematician. I expect that the curriculum that I produce will help students get hired in their chosen field of interest based on the technical expertise they develop as they work through my content.
Other notes:
Because there are too many White guys named Jeff Anderson, I use the moniker “Jeff Anderson Math” to distinguish myself in public spaces. To my knowledge, I’m the only person on earth that uses that phrase as a public identifier. If you’re trying to find me, search “Jeff Anderson Math.”
In case you’re interested: I live in Newark, California, USA.
